St. George’s Caye was the site of a historic battle between the Spanish coming out of Mexico and local settlers of the then British Honduras known as Baymen. This battle is celebrated every year on September 10 as St. George’s Caye day which marks the last day that the Spanish attempted to take the area leaving the Baymen and the British to control this Central American country.

st. George’s Caye Resort is an exclusive resort on an island 7 miles off the coast of Belize City. It is a 20 minute drive from the international airport and then another 15 minutes by boat to the island. Due to the island's location, it is one of the safest places in Belize, and in the Caribbean and Central America.
The island is a historically significant, private residence island where elite Belizean families own vacation homes. The island is less than a mile long and 300 feet across so sunrise and sunset are both enjoyed with the turn of a chair. The island is situated only ¼ mile inside the largest barrier reef in the western hemisphere - so extraordinary fishing, diving and snorkeling are 5 minutes away.
The operation consists of 2 properties; the main resort property and the staff area. They are separated by family vacation homes and approximately 500 feet. Both properties are the full width of the island extending sea to sea.
The main resort property is approximately 2.5 acres in size, offers over 300’ of beachfront and is about 300 feet across. That property consists of 7 parcels. There is a 50’ x 20’ pool, a 5000 sq ft villa, 4 Oceanfront cabanas, 2 Ocean view in a garden setting, and 6 built on the oval dock. The main lodge, a generator building and a compressor building are also on the main property. The main resort property also offers a volley ball court, private garden dining area, beautiful gardens, a hand crafted water fountain and a beautiful aviary. On the windward beach are 4 palapas or grass umbrellas and a large 200 foot, 2 fingered dock with a large palapa built on it. The dock has a fresh water shower conveniently located for easy access.
The volley ball court is located on the leeward beach and there is a large dock with a palapa covering the majority of the dock. Fresh water is available on this dock also.
The cabana dock is also on the leeward side of the island along with a staff-only loading dock.
The staff area has another approximately 150’ of beachfront and is almost a full acre. There are 12 cement buildings with 2 staff rooms in each. On the windward side of the island is another 3 bedroom, 2 bath house suitable for management. The ground level has a woodworking shop complete with professional lathes, saws and sanders.
There are plenty of SCUBA tanks that can be utilized for air or nitrox.. There is an extensive selection of dive gear including regulators, bcs, masks, fins, wetsuits, dive computers and repair and service equipment. All servicing can be done in house. All gear is serviced and logged regularly.
There are two 14’ hobie cats and one 16’ hobie cat along with 4 windsurfers and 8 kayaks. All equipment is properly maintained. Life jackets, paddles etc are all available and stored in the ground level basement of the main lodge.
The resort owns a 2004 Nissan Urvan that is utilized for tours and guest transport from the airport.
